FAQs

Your questions answered

Most people start seeing results within 3–6 months of consistent use. Hair growth is a gradual process, and it takes time for follicles to respond to treatment. You may notice reduced shedding first, followed by new growth. For best results, continue treatment for at least 12 months.

Finasteride and dutasteride are daily tablets that work by blocking DHT — the hormone responsible for hair loss. Finasteride blocks one type of the enzyme that produces DHT, while dutasteride blocks all three types, making it a stronger option that reduces DHT levels by over 90%. Minoxidil is a topical solution applied directly to the scalp that stimulates blood flow to follicles, promoting new growth. Many men use a DHT blocker alongside minoxidil for the best results.

Most men tolerate hair loss treatments well. Finasteride and dutasteride may cause decreased libido or erectile changes in a small number of users (around 1–2%), which typically resolve if treatment is stopped. As dutasteride is more potent, side effects may be slightly more likely but remain uncommon. Minoxidil may cause scalp irritation or unwanted facial hair growth in some users. Our clinicians will discuss all potential side effects during your consultation.

Dutasteride is typically recommended for men who haven’t seen sufficient results with finasteride alone, or those with more advanced hair loss who want a stronger DHT-blocking treatment. It works by inhibiting all three types of 5-alpha reductase enzyme, compared to finasteride which only blocks one type. Our clinicians will assess whether dutasteride is the right option for your situation during your consultation.

Hair loss treatments work best with continuous use. If you stop, the effects will gradually reverse over several months as DHT levels return to normal (for finasteride or dutasteride) or blood flow decreases (for minoxidil). Many men choose to continue long-term to maintain their results. You can pause or stop at any time — there’s no lock-in.

These treatments are most effective for male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). Results vary depending on the extent of hair loss and how long you’ve been experiencing it. Generally, the earlier you start, the better the outcome. Our clinicians will assess your suitability during the consultation and recommend the best approach for your situation.
